DK Design Co. is my one-person design business. I take on projects alongside my work in science and software, using 3D models and drawings to work through practical problems.
I’ve remodeled several houses and designed and built projects of my own. That experience carries into the details: how something fits an existing space, how the pieces meet, and what needs to be worked out before building.
Science and software
I’m a computational physicist and computer scientist with a BS from Caltech. In my day job, I lead a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers using AI and machine learning to modernize algorithms and software for optical and radar sensors.
My design work also includes custom software, websites, and AI projects. The projects vary, but I enjoy working through a problem until the pieces make sense together.
My side yard garden
The garden on the homepage is my own. I rented a skid steer to remove the grass from an underused side yard. A pea gravel path now winds through cedar raised beds of different heights beside a Yardistry cedar greenhouse from Costco. The layout keeps a productive garden tidy enough for the HOA.
I grow several varieties of peppers and tomatoes, along with okra, cucumbers, and radishes. Marigolds, borage, basil, zinnias, and cosmos are mixed in to attract pollinators.
A smart valve monitors the weather and controls the drip irrigation. Overhead lights run on a timer, giving the garden a gentle glow for a late-night stroll.
My wife is an Alabama Extension Master Gardener. Her knowledge of soil, plants, and growing conditions complements the work I do on garden layouts, structures, lighting, and irrigation.
